Grantmaking Process
Eligibility
The Foundation makes grants to organizations that are tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3) and to governmental agencies (excluding private foundations and non-integrated supporting organizations). Organizations not meeting these requirements may partner with an eligible organization to receive funding through fiscal sponsorship.
Organizations planning to apply for funding with a fiscal sponsor must submit:
A letter outlining each organization's roles and responsibilities. The letter should be signed by the executive director of the organization providing fiscal sponsorship.
The fiscal sponsor’s tax information, including the organization’s EIN and a copy of its IRS determination letter.
Application Process
The Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation makes grants on a rolling basis, with grant recommendations voted on by the Board of Directors during its quarterly meetings. Foundation staff are focused on engaging with grantee partners, other funders, and community groups to identify programs and organizations that align with the Foundation’s grantmaking priorities. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on long-term investments in key partners. Grant applications are initiated differently depending on the organization's funding history with the Foundation:
Current Grantees
If your organization is a current grantee with a grant expiring this year (i.e., the final payment on your grant was made in 2024), we will proactively contact you to identify organizational needs and begin the application process in our online grants portal. During the first quarter of the year, we will prioritize organizations with grants paid in the first quarter of 2024. As we progress through the year, we will continue contacting organizations that received funding in 2024. Grantees must submit a report on previous grant activities before conversations about new funding can take place.
New Requests for Funding
If your organization is not a current Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation grantee, please complete our grant inquiry form to help us learn more about your work. As the Foundation makes grants on a rolling basis, there is no due date for inquiry forms. Click here to complete the grant inquiry form.
Review Process & Timeline
The Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation accepts applications on a rolling basis. The Foundation’s Grants Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, which votes on these recommendations during quarterly meetings. During the application process, staff communicates with organizations about their request’s review timeline.
