Working together to cultivate resilient communities and ecosystems in the places the Worrells called home.
The Board, staff, and committee members of the Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation work together to uphold the legacy of its founders and to ensure that the communities they called home remain places for people and the planet to thrive for generations to come.
One of the Foundation’s core values is partnership, recognizing that the true experts are those with lived experiences and the organizations delivering community solutions. The Foundation seeks to provide a range of services to its partners beyond just funding, including connections, capacity building, and communication.
The Foundation also believes in the value of partnership in philanthropy, working closely with other funders and being active members of Charlottesville’s Early Childhood Funders Network and the Virginia Funders Network.
Anne and Gene Worrell created the Genan Foundation in 1986 to support their shared philanthropic vision. In 2019, the estate of Mrs. Worrell created the Foundation’s Board of Directors, contributed additional assets, and established a time-limited existence of 35 years. The Board changed the name of the Foundation in 2023 to honor its founders, whose foresight and generosity bring us together in this meaningful work.
